Last Friday, 12/11/15, I experienced my first ever PR (Personal Record)! I deadlifted 225 lbs., and by doing so I got to ring the PR bell, and write my name on the whiteboard. Now all of this may seem trivial and silly to some of you, but for me; for my inner athlete it was the equivalent of winning a match or placing in a tournament. It’s been quite some time since I have done any of the listed above so to achieve that level of excitement and self-satisfaction was amazing.


I couldn’t have achieved this PR though without the help of one of the coaches; Mike McKinney. During the exercise he was joking with me about how we were supposed to be lifting weights and not feathers. Now to be honest I didn’t have a point of reference as to how much weight should have been on my bar. I started off small, and just kept adding as he told me I needed more. When the last addition of weights was added to my bar I started to get a little psyched out. It seemed like way too much weight. It was a lot of plates on the bar. The look of it all on the floor in front of me was daunting. As I rested before my lift I tried to clear my head of the negativity, and remind myself that I had just lifted the exact bar minus 20 lbs. before this and that I could definitely do it again. Mind clear, and positive vibes flowing I lifted the 225 lbs., grinning from ear to ear. Once it was done I explained to Mike that I had never deadlifted before, and I honestly don’t think he believed me. The look on his face and everyone else’s in the room was contagious. These people were genuinely happy for me and for what I just accomplished. I was on cloud 9 ringing that bell, and writing my name. I was on top of the world; that is until we had to do the WOD; my arms were Jell-O and I was running on pure adrenaline. I completed the WOD quicker than I ever remembered doing a 21, 15, 9 and I have that PR to thank for it.

Did I mention that the praise I that I got in and out of the gym was amazing? This group of people; the ones who I see every day/every other day, the ones who I only see on Facebook or in passing, are the best group of people that I know. These people make these small gains worth it. The excitement and enthusiasm everyone shares for one another is like nothing I have ever experienced before (And I’ve been a part of a lot of teams.). I can truly say that all of these wonderfully amazing people are the best kind of medicine a girl could ask for on her road to living healthy. Without all of them it would be not only hard, but incredibly lonely. So, cheers (protein shakes, of course!) to all of you AMAZING PEOPLE at CFN. I love you all.
